The German off-road driver drove with his father down the so-called “Wasserkar” in the Gaislachkogel area and triggered an avalanche. He was dragged around 300 meters. Eventually he remained lying on the surface of the snow, unscathed. The father called the emergency services, the police reported.
An avalanche also ended lightly in the state of Salzburg: a 55-year-old triggered an avalanche in the Zallingraben in Mauterndorf (Lungau) on Saturday afternoon. The Carinthian had driven into a gully in the Großeck-Speiereck ski area in open terrain off the piste. Above him a slab of snow came loose. The skier was able to get to safety in time and was not buried. The Salzburg police reported that no one else was injured in the avalanche.
