As the police announced on Saturday evening, the fire probably broke out around 6:30 p.m. due to an overheated wall socket in Sankt Radegund near Graz. After the man’s frail mother smelled the smell of fire, she called a neighbor who alerted the fire department. The emergency services reached the upper floor of the house, where the man was lying on the floor.
They took the 58-year-old outside because of the heavy smoke, but resuscitation, which was initiated immediately, had no effect. The emergency doctor who was called only determined that the Styrian was dead, the police reported.
