The Montevideo Municipality (IM) will allocate 8 million pesos for the Smart Tourist Destinations Fund 300 years, an initiative that aims to finance projects that raise axes related to sustainability, technology, innovation and accessibility.
The objective of the department led by the mayor Carolina Cosse is “to consolidate a model of Smart Tourist Destination”, through coordinated work between public and private managers, to “improve efficiency, promote competitiveness and improve the visitor experience” in Montevideo.
Entrepreneurs and companies will be able to present until February 16, 2024 their projects related to the topic, which favor “the creation of employment, equal opportunities and human development around this activity.”
The measure, which is part of the celebration of the 300 years of the founding process of Montevideo, It will finance up to 20 initiatives, with a maximum of 400,000 pesos each and a maximum execution period of eight months.
From the I.M. They pointed out that the presentation of associative projects is allowed, with a maximum of three companies, being able to request up to 800,000 pesos in those cases.
The axes of the projects
Among the different axes that the initiatives can have, appears the sustainability. In that aspect, Montevideo aims at “projects that strengthen the tourism value chain”, referring to initiatives that “foster sustainable mobility, promote circular economy, reuse of resources, optimization of processes, mitigation of impacts and the efficient use of resources.”
Among the proposals linked to the innovation, The IM seeks “to provide added value to the offer they already provide, such as inclusion of technology, improvement of processes, creation of innovative products and services for the territory.”
Refering to technology, the search is with initiatives “that use technology to transform the management of the venture or to improve interaction with the visitor at any stage of the customer journey, as well as to implement improvements in products and/or services, within other options that the applicant considers appropriate. “They contribute to the competitiveness of the sector.”
Finally, the axis linked to accessibility aims at “projects that improve the accessibility conditions of the tourist offer, such as investment in works that result in the improvement of mobility and accessibility; implementation of measures to improve accessibility through technological and innovative solutions.”
