The Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed to Interfax that an agreement had been reached on a telephone conversation between the presidents.
Earlier in the day, Biden said that he would not accept anyone’s “red lines” on the issue of Ukraine. He added that he intends to have a “long conversation” with Putin.
On December 3, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that Biden would talk with Putin “in the very near future”. According to him, during the talks, the American leader will confirm his desire for predictable and stable relations with Russia.
Earlier that day, Peskov said that the exact date of the upcoming meeting between Putin and Biden has not yet been agreed. He also commented on information that appeared in the media that the talks between the leaders could take place on December 7. According to him, such a date appears during the discussion.
In turn, the assistant to the Russian leader Yuri Ushakov said that one of the topics of the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States will be the situation in Ukraine. The parties will also discuss Afghanistan, consider the topics of Iran, Syria and Libya. In addition, the conversation will touch upon the issue of bilateral relations, as well as the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meeting in Geneva.
On December 2, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed hope that a conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States would take place in the coming days. He stressed that the upcoming conversation is important in the current conditions.
The day before, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance would welcome a new personal meeting between Putin and Biden.
