After one and a half years of renovation, the Kaiser anniversary organ in the Bad Ischl parish church was inaugurated with a celebratory service at the weekend. Klaus Sonnleitner, organist at St. Florian Abbey and a native of Bad Ischl, played the instrument.
The organ, which first sounded in 1910 on the occasion of the emperor’s 80th birthday, is considered a cultural and musical historical jewel. A special feature is the remote control in the attic, which is played from the main organ and creates a spatial sound. At the time it was built, the Kaiser Jubilee Organ was the most modern organ in the world. During the general renovation, 4,155 pipes were cleaned, the remote control was reconstructed and the air supply to the organ was improved.
The renovation was a major project, especially from a financial perspective. A separate committee of committed parishioners was founded for this purpose. They collected donations for the major investment for years, for example by selling an “organ wine”.
