At the end of the year, Ernst Spitzbart will end his role as managing director of the paper factory UPM Kymmene Austria GmbH in Steyrermühl. The 61-year-old wanted to dedicate himself to new challenges, the company announced yesterday. Spitzbart’s departure coincides with the takeover of the Steyrermühl paper mill by the Heinzel Group (Laakirchen paper mill) at the turn of the year.
The manager began his career as an apprentice in the paper factory, continuing a long family tradition. He later completed his studies. He is considered an energy expert, took many measures for the environment and, as an author, documented the cultural relevance of paper production in Steyrermühl.
“His commitment and passion for the further development of the company and the Steyrermühl location will be remembered,” says Anu Ahola, Senior Vice President Operations at UPM.
The future owner, Sebastian Heinzel, CEO of the Heinzel Group, also thanks the site manager: “With his forward-looking thinking, Mr. Spitzbart has secured the Steyrermühl site sustainably and successfully prepared the transformation into a center for packaging paper and renewable energy together with us. We are grateful for his excellent work and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
