Uruguay presented a national human rights plan

Beatriz Argimón assured that the initiative, to be applied in 2027, is a “must” that will allow the country to meet its objectives.

The Uruguayan government presented, through the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency the first national human rights plan for the year 2027, which has the objective of being implemented in the next public policies and which, according to the vice president of the Republic, Beatriz Argimonit was something that the country had as a debt.

He First National Human Rights Plan has the objective of incorporating into public policies a perspective and focus on access to rights in vulnerable populations, as well as the education and learning of them in society. A decision that, in a certain sense, would be applied in future governments as a political contract.

“The plan is the cornerstone for whoever comes behind our power to continue working with the civil society, with the academy, but more than anything give the human rights approach to all the public policies that the Government” expressed the Secretary of Human Rights of the Presidency, Sandra Etcheverrywho added that Uruguay He is a pioneer in human rights and that is something “worthy of congratulations.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Argimón assured that this plan was a “must” within politics since it allows the country to comply with something that was essential and that was a lack. For her part, the coordinator of the United Nations Organization (UN) in the country, Pablo Ruiz Hiebra, He highlighted the importance of the plan being aligned with the United Nations 2030 agenda and being explicit regarding its commitment to gender equality and the protection of vulnerable populations.

What does the plan consist of?

The generation of this plan consisted of the compilation of the different experiences and, from there, a roadmap was proposed that has the objective of unifying the approach of the Uruguay against human rights policies. Accompanied by the United Nations Organization (UN), The roadmap proposes different activities related to this topic.

Meanwhile, the plan has several stages where human rights education courses will be implemented that will be applied at the government level, which are already being taught in conjunction with the National School of Public Administration. In this sense, the plan addresses the treatment of discrimination and attention to highly vulnerable populations, among them, migrants and refugees, people with disability, Afro-descendants and those people of the LGBTIQ+ community.

The secretariat established that “within the framework of this plan, the Secretariat of Human Rights is committed to working collaboratively with government institutions, civil society and all levels of government, in pursuit of building a future where dignity, freedom and justice are guaranteed for all.”
