He 2023 will close as a good year for the private energy generationin which the modification of the decree of recognition of power to non-conventional renewable energies in Uruguay, that allowed the first contract between private.

The president of the Uruguayan Association of Private Electric Energy Generators (Augpee), Martín Bocage, pointed out that the first contract between two private companies for the supply of non-conventional renewable energy is already a milestone that leaves this year just a few days away from ending. In dialogue with Radio Carve, he made reference in this way to the agreement between Coca-Cola Femsa and Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure for the supply of photovoltaic energy through the Albisu I Solar Park.

This was possible after the government enabled the entry of private actors to the supply of non-conventional renewable energy. For Bocage, 2023 “will also be remembered for the fall or elimination of one of the barriers for that to happen.”

“It is also a year in which we ended that discussion of the impact that the first transition to renewablesin the cost of producing electrical energy,” he noted, as a balance, and in reference to the first energy transition that took place in Uruguay. “It was already demonstrated by an energy expert, by the Energy Observatory of the Catholic University of Uruguay (UCU) and by the consultant Exante that the impact was tremendously positive, not only environmentally but economically, reducing the cost of producing the energy we demand in the country by almost half. Uruguay”, explained the president of Augpee.

Likewise, the leader pointed out the opportunities that the 2024, for being a election year. “Election years are very prolific in discussions, Looking forward, it will be a good time for the electricity sector and its experts, who advise political parties, to sit at the table to discuss and look ten years ahead about how we ensure that our electrical system continues to be a robust system, that delivers good quality of energy, and we achieve the cheapest price possible for the user”, considered Bocage.

In that sense, he emphasized that “what is going to cause rates to end up going down is going to be the competence in a market that is transparent and interesting enough for many actors to compete for the lowest possible cost.”
