The donations they collect will go to 500 projects of the Epiphany Campaign, which has chosen Guatemala as its example country this year. The aim is to help young people in the Central American country.
The former civil war country of Guatemala is very young: 41 percent of the 17 million inhabitants are children and young people. The Epiphany Campaign also wants to contribute to better protection against violence. Specifically, part of the donations also go to the Human Rights Office of the Archdiocese of Guatemala, which documents and publishes violations of children’s rights – such as mistreatment, sexual abuse, human trafficking, chronic and acute malnutrition, child labor and unwanted pregnancies.

The star singing in its current form is being held for the 70th time. The Catholic Youth Group’s campaign has already raised 520 million euros since it began in 1954.
The children dressed as Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar announce the Christmas message during their visits from house to house, bring blessings for the new year and collect money for aid projects around the world.
The official start of the campaign is the reception of the “Holy Kings” at Cardinal Schönborn on December 27, 2023. On December 30th, royal delegations from all over Austria will be guests of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.
