When the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert is broadcast to more than 90 countries around the world on January 1st, Bad Ischl will be in the spotlight. The ORF uses the banner city of the European Capital of Culture as a filming location for the intermission film and the ballet interludes.
Filming took place in, among other places, the imperial villa and the marble castle that the emperor once had built for Empress Elisabeth. The ORF announces “a montage of the most beautiful pictures of Bad Ischl and the surrounding area”. The orchestra itself will play the “Ischler Waltz” by Johann Strauß Sohn. The intermission film on the topic “200 Years of Anton Bruckner” was also shot in Bad Ischl, where the composer stayed several times. Dancing couples from the D’Ischler traditional costume club can also be seen.
“Bad Ischl will play an important role in front of an audience of millions on January 1st and will be present in a variety of ways,” says Bad Ischl’s mayor Ines Schiller (SPÖ).
