After 30 years I returned to Antarctica

President Luis Lacalle Pou arrived at the Antarcticaaccompanied by the Minister of Defense, Javier Garciaand his three children, after last week he had to postpone his visit to the Artigas Antarctic Scientific Base (BCAA) due to adverse weather conditions.

This Monday, Lacalle Pou carried out the administrative transfer of power to the now acting president, Beatriz Argimónfaced with possible delays in his return to the country and from the territory he uploaded a photo to his social networks, where he expressed: “After 30 years, I returned to the Antarctica”.

“The Artigas Base It houses military and civilians who work side by side,” the president said and highlighted that in that place “everyone is taking care of and researching this unique corner of the world that we must preserve.”

The head of state will be in Antarctica for almost 24 hours accompanied by his three children and a government delegation, in which the presence of the Minister of National Defense, Javier Garcíaand the commanders of the National Army, Mario Stevenazziand of the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), Luis De Leon.

The Uruguayan delegation left around 9:00 a.m. on a FAU Hercules plane, which made a direct flight to the airport of the Chilean base Frei Montalvaclose to the BCAA.

What scientific projects are developed at the Artigas Base?
