When it comes to the care and support of older people and their caring relatives, many wheels come together in the Freistadt district. In addition to the social welfare association, the Red Cross and the Diakonie, the six regional social-medical care rings (SMB) play a crucial role.
The social-medical care rings in the Freistadt district not only organize a low-threshold home and home service, but also take over the delivery of meals on wheels. Some of these care rings were founded 30 years ago. Thanks to their extraordinary voluntary commitment, these associations have been able to establish themselves over the years and become an indispensable supporter of community life in the local communities. “With this dense network of voluntary social care on site, the Freistadt district occupies a special position in the whole of Austria,” says district governor Andrea Wildberger.
Due to their evolved structures, the funding amounts used, meal tariffs and other contributions developed quite differently in the SMB regions. These tariffs have now been revised together with the Freistadt Social Welfare Association and incorporated into a new funding agreement. From 2024 onwards, uniform membership fees, meal tariffs and funding commitments will apply. This not only makes the offers for those receiving SMB services more transparent, but also simplifies collaboration with each other. District Governor Wildberger: “The agreement reflects the common effort to not only strengthen current supply, but also to create a robust basis for overcoming future challenges.”
Accordingly, the agreement concluded after a careful coordination phase also lays the foundation for deeper cooperation in the future. For example, regular strategy discussions are planned between the Freistadt Social Welfare Association and the regional SMBs in order to set common goals, exchange best practices and continuously improve and clearly position services in the region. “In order to be able to master the challenges of an aging population, we have to coordinate ourselves as best as possible and use every synergy that is available,” Wildberger has high hopes for this collaboration in the social sector.
