Manini Ríos proposes that government efforts be audited

The senator and leader of Open Town Hall, Guido Manini Ríosannounced that he will present a bill so that all governments of Uruguay must perform audits of the previous management to “see the use he made of the public money” and determine how they found the country.

The objective of Manini Ríos is to establish the obligation that each new management must audit its predecessor, as a form of control and transparency regarding the state funds. As the lobbyist explained, the project that is still being completed establishes that “once the administration changes, within a limited period, which in the current draft is proposed as 180 days, all State departments must be audited with management audits to see the use that was made of public money.”

“This is connected with an old Hispanic tradition, of the residency lawsuitswhere all those who held relevant positions were put on trial at the end of their term,” the senator noted.

For Manini Ríos, it would be “very healthy” in the national politics that “every leader knows that when he leaves his position he will be audited to determine how the money was used.”

“In the long run I think this will generate savings to the State, because it is not going to allow any discretionary spending that we sometimes see in some distribution,” he added.

This project, the lobby leader said, “is almost ready,” and the party hopes to be able to present it in the Parliament through the Senate between February and March of next year, after the break.

An undefined candidacy

For its part, Town meeting remains the only party in the Multicolor Coalition that has not yet defined what will be the formula that will compete in next year’s elections. However, the general assumption is that Manini Ríos will be the one who heads the lobbying formula; Even so he is shuffled into the ranks of the sector.

In that sense, the senator told Telemundo that he “probably” is the candidate for Town meetingand that “probably” drives a “parity formula”: “I think it is good to represent women at all levels of the party,” she stressed. In any case, she clarified that this is not “necessarily mandatory” and that within the party she leads, women are valued “without the need for quotas.” , but “based on the value” of each of them.

His wife, the former minister of Housing and Territorial Planning (MVOT) Irene Moreirawill not be part of the formula.
