The US authorities are confident in the possibility of diplomatic interaction to resolve issues that have been accumulating for years and to avoid “tragic violence” in Ukraine, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said on December 5 in an interview with RBC.
“You saw the statement by Secretary of State Blinken about the unusual military strengthening of the Russian military on the border with Ukraine. We believe that there are destabilizing actions within Ukraine, ”the ambassador said.
In this regard, Washington is considering the possibility of preventing the deterioration of the situation through diplomatic methods in the “Normandy format” or through the Trilateral Contact Group. The December 2 meeting between Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was devoted to this issue.
The ambassador added that US President Joe Biden instructed the Secretary of State to build stable and predictable relations with Moscow, despite current differences. Following the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov noted the readiness of the Russian Federation to find a balance of interests in relations with the United States.
