The calm before the storm on Thursday afternoon was deceptive. Because the gusts increased in strength in the evening hours.
At around 8 p.m. there were the first problems with the power supply in the Mühlviertel, confirmed an employee of the fault reporting center of Netz OÖ/Energie AG. Shortly after 9 p.m., 828 of 28,052 Energie AG customers were affected in the Rohrbach district, and 1,152 of 14,701 customers in the neighboring Urfahr-Raum district were affected. “Of course, every power outage is one too many,” said the employee on the telephone hotline, who had already made several phone calls in the evening. The technicians are already on the way and work is in full swing to repair the power lines. However, he couldn’t say how long it would take. But damage was repaired within the next half hour: around 9:30 p.m., all households in the Urfahr area and only 176 households in Rohrbach had no electricity.
The state fire brigade command, although still isolated, had already recorded a number of storm damage operations by the volunteer fire brigades – spread across the entire state. “It shouldn’t really start until around 11 p.m.,” said an employee at the control center. A greater amount of storm damage is expected overnight and tomorrow. If the situation worsens, the team in the telephone exchange will also be strengthened.
