Dozens of roofs were damaged and part of a hotel in the center was covered.
“Fortunately no one was injured,” says Christian Wacek from the main fire station of the Bad Ischl Volunteer Fire Department. Because some dangerous situations arose: in Rettenbach the entire roof structure of a single-family home was torn down.
In the center of Ischl, the storm lifted the sheet metal roof of a hotel from its anchorage and the roof was thrown violently against the building opposite.
The emergency services were happy about snacks and warm drinks that the citizens of Ischl made available to the volunteers. “A nice gesture,” says firefighter Wacek.
In Steyr the Christmas market had to be canceled due to the storm warning.

Wels: Roof of gymnasium severely damaged
In Wels, too, a flat roof was covered on Friday night; a school building on Linzer Strasse was affected, specifically the school center’s gymnasium. Damage was temporarily repaired and the flat roof was weighted down, according to the FF Wels. The incident happened around 11 p.m., so around 20 firefighters were on duty.
