OSE will raise its rates at a level similar to inflation

The public company defined how much its update will be for 2024, after a year marked by the water crisis.

The rates of SBI will increase by 5.5% starting next year and will thus remain in line with the level of inflation that is expected for the end of the year, according to the estimates of the next CPI, that he INE will be released in the coming weeks.

In this way, with an adjustment that was confirmed by El Observador and is estimated to be up to a few tenths below the inflation, The state company seeks to leave behind a year that was marked by the drought and the water crisis that derived from the climate phenomenon, which culminated with the declaration of the water emergency.

The update was defined by the board of SBI and agreed with the Planning and Budget Office (OPP) Energy and Water Services Regulatory Unit (Ursea).

The vice president of the state company, Susana Montaner, valued the company’s efforts in the face of the cost overruns it had in 2023 due to the water deficit, which was felt mainly in Montevideo, raising the salinity of the water.

He even analyzed that the increase “will be below the inflation projected”, which is estimated between 5.7% and 5.8%, according to Montaner to El País.

Among public companies, the first to define its increases for 2024 was UTE, by announcing a 3.5% increase in its rates from next January, something that must be defined in the coming days by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM).
