The 30-year-old from the Freistadt district drove from Schöneben towards Liebenau around five in the morning after a fire brigade operation. When he saw a treetop lying on the road, the man stopped his car and turned on his hazard lights. A firefighter colleague (52) who was following also stopped and turned on the hazard warning lights. Both tried to remove the treetop from the road.

A 25-year-old car driver from the Freistadt district who was driving towards Schöneben may have overlooked the two men. The 30-year-old, who was standing on the road at the time, was hit by the car and seriously injured. After receiving initial care from the emergency doctor, he was taken to the clinic in Freistadt.
