“Some plain tiles on the roof of the parish church came loose due to the gusts of wind in the morning,” says Steyr fire brigade commander Gerhard Praxmarer. “The larger area, about one and a half square meters, was covered by the wind on the south side of the church.” The tiles fell up to 40 meters high from the roof of the church, which was built in the Gothic style in the 15th century. Luckily, the storm only loosened a few roof tiles on the north side. However, a few people went towards Pfarrberg, which is frequented by many pedestrians, especially on shopping Saturdays. Due to the bad weather there were significantly fewer than usual the day before Christmas. No one was injured, but the fire department immediately cordoned off the danger area and cleaned the street.
Praxmarer: “Otherwise it was rather quiet in the city area today. We only had small operations due to broken branches or fallen trees.
Yesterday, Friday, the city council of Steyr ordered the castle park, the promenade, the Steinwandweg, the Unteren Schiffweg and the Christmas market to be closed for safety reasons due to the storm warning. Before that it was alreadyn the night of Friday, December 22nd, an old beech tree fell over the dog off-leash area in the castle park.
