After the tumultuous scenes that happened on Saturday in the Kirchdorf Clinic, the Upper Austrian health holding wants to rethink the safety precautions in the hospitals. “We have to calmly take a look at what can be improved, because we have to protect our employees as well as possible,” said Holding Spokeswoman Jutta Oberweger. In any case, an incident like this “never happened”.
On Saturday morning, a Turkish Covid patient was dying in the intensive care unit. The ward doctor on duty (59) called the family members to allow them to say goodbye to the terminally ill 67-year-old woman.
Eight relatives came to the clinic. They were provided with protective clothing in groups of two and channeled into the intensive care unit. Initially, that went smoothly. But as a result, family members apparently did not want to come to terms with the course of fate. They demanded that the 67-year-old be transferred to Turkey for further treatment.
They called the Turkish consulate several times to enforce their concerns. With success: the consulate contacted the Kirchdorfer Klinikum “several times” to comply with the request to move, says Oberweger.
But the transport of a highly infectious, dying patient would not have been feasible. After the patient died shortly afterwards, the heated atmosphere among the relatives discharged: eleven pushed forward to the porter’s lodge, various objects were broken, death threats were made. Five police patrols restored order.
Omikron: Four suspected cases
There are now four suspected Omikron cases in Upper Austria, they affect travelers returning. The results of the AGES whole genome sequencing should be available this week. 850 new corona cases were registered yesterday. In addition, 122 patients were treated in intensive care, 445 were in a normal ward.
