Clemens Arzt, an officer on duty in the Upper Austrian State Fire Brigade Command, gave an assessment of the situation in the country on Saturday afternoon: “We currently have to process between 50 and 80 missions in parallel. Since midnight there are currently 670 missions for which we have been alerted. It is currently manageable and we are cautiously optimistic.” 5,700 firefighters from 400 fire departments were already on duty by the afternoon.

Around a fifth of the local fire departments are currently busy with pumping work. “The levels on the large rivers are not the issue, but rather the surface water that is not canalized,” says Arzt. The Hydrographic Service categorizes the current situation into the warning level “alert level 0 – advance warning”. The water levels would rise throughout. However, Inn, Traun and Enns are already showing a slight downward trend. However, smaller bodies of water can still cause small-scale flooding. Rainfall will continue into the night, particularly in the Mühlviertel and the southern parts of the country.
The majority of operations – around 70 percent – relate to storm damage. The wind in the country is expected to die down from 5 p.m.
Train connection in Mühlviertel interrupted
As the ÖBB informs, the railway line between Rottenegg and Neuhaus-Niederwaldkirchen is expected to be closed until tomorrow, Sunday, midday “due to the current weather”. A replacement rail service was set up.
