Animal use for mountain rescue on Christmas Day: During a walk on the 1,542 meter high Katrin, a dog strayed from the path and fell around 200 meters into impassable and steep terrain. Eight comrades from the Bad Ischl local branch came to rescue the English bulldog. To do this, two mountain rescuers, one of them a dog handler, were rappelled down to the animal using a Dyneema rope system.

After the four-legged friend had calmed down, the animal, which weighed around 25 kilograms, was shouldered by a comrade and carried up the steep slope in a real show of strength through sometimes waist-high snow. The Great Dane was almost uninjured and was handed over to its relieved owner at the mountain station of the Katrin cable car, the Bad Ischl mountain rescue service announced via Facebook.
