The skiing holiday for a 37-year-old German ended in the hospital on Boxing Day: The winter sports enthusiast was on the Höss in Hinterstoder (Kirchdorf an der Krems district) in the morning when something serious happened on the Hösskogel run around 9:50 a.m An accident occurred: For reasons that are still unclear, the 37-year-old fell on the slopes, only around 500 meters from the lift station in the Hutterer Boden area.

He slid a few meters down the valley on the icy ground before lying unconscious on the slope. Witnesses immediately provided first aid and started the rescue chain. When he fell, the man sustained such serious injuries that he had to be resuscitated on the spot by piste rescuers, paramedics and an emergency doctor.
Police are looking for witnesses
After initial treatment, the man, who had suffered serious skull injuries, was taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz in the emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 99,” the police said in the afternoon. The exact course of the accident is currently still under investigation. Witnesses are asked to contact the Windischgarsten police station on 059133/4128.
Nine-year-old seriously injured in Obertraun
It was not the only serious accident on Upper Austria’s ski slopes over the Christmas holidays: it was only on Christmas Day that the rescue helicopter was deployed at Krippenstein after a nine-year-old fell on the edge of the slope. The impact on the flat rocky terrain next to the piste was so violent that the ski helmet broke. The German vacationer child was taken to a hospital by helicopter.

A child was also injured while skiing in Tyrol: a ten-year-old lost control of her skis in the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area and crashed into a tree. A witness provided first aid and started the rescue chain, and the girl was flown to the hospital.
Slope rescue and Alpine police responded to the Ischgl ski area after a 31-year-old German skier got into a steep gully and didn’t dare go forward or back. The woman was brought back to the slopes, hypothermic and exhausted, but uninjured.
