In the run-up to Christmas, a private initiative in Hague, in cooperation with the Hague City Marketing Association and the municipality of Hague, launched a special project: people who are not doing so well should be supported by giving them a little festive joy. With the “Wish Tree” project, around 30 wishes were fulfilled and eleven banana boxes containing generous food donations were distributed to families in need.
The campaign began at the end of November with the setting up of the wish tree on the Hague main square next to the Advent village. Citizens of The Hague were invited to fulfill the wishes written on the stars hanging on the wishing tree. Shopping and food vouchers were particularly requested.
Food and hygiene items could also be donated at the Ringseis Spar market. Eleven banana boxes with the corresponding goods came together here, also with the strong help of the Spar market.
A dedicated team around Bernhard Teichmann, Ingrid Buchner, Eva Lubowski, Ingrid Bachinger, Adelheid Schoberberger and Monika Schimbäck was the driving force behind this Christmas project. They not only organized the implementation, but were also actively involved in fulfilling the wishes and distributing the food donations.
“The ‘Wish Tree’ project shows how strong our community can stick together. It is very nice to see how the people in Hague support each other during the Christmas season and give each other joy,” say the initiators of the project. The families who received presents shortly before Christmas accepted the help with great gratitude and joy.
