At a press conference, the leader assured that it is a measure that has had “a brutal impact” and that the half-price discount will be applied to the beneficiaries of the Uruguay Social Card, of the Equity Plan, the Old Age Assistance Plan and households with family allowances from the Social Security Bank (BPS).

The confirmation came after a meeting between the head of the portfolio and the authorities of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining and Ancap and continues a plan that began to take shape in mid-2022 that reached more than 200,000 homes.
“One million recharges were exceeded and by virtue of these elements we have resolved to maintain the 50% discount throughout 2024, which has to do with the good management of public companies,” the minister noted.
Meanwhile, the leader announced that they are trying to ensure that the beneficiaries can access through Your App since it gives them the security of being able to follow up and is much more practical for users.
Lema highlighted the impact of discounts
In that sense, Motto He recalled that “in 2018 a 15% discount had been established on the 13 kilo bottle” although it did not have a very significant impact since there were 5,000 or 6,000 homes a year that used it. “Now we are talking about more than 200,000 in a year and a half. So, clearly, it was still very expensive for many people to be able to access the 13 kilo recharge with a 15% discount,” she explained.
For his part, the president of Ancap, Alejandro Stipanicic, He said that the fiscal waiver this means for the state is 600 million pesos.
This measure is also accompanied by the social bonus that implies a 90% reduction in the electricity rate of UTE and that reaches 150,000 homes and has the objective that more Uruguayans can access public services.
