Uruguay added 24 new frequencies to its air connectivity in 2023

The increases occurred at the Carrasco International Airport and at the Laguna del Sauce International Airport, in Punta del Este.

The air connectivity of Uruguay increased in 2023 compared to the previous year, adding 24 new frequencies at the country’s two main airports, the Carrasco International Airport (Canelones) and the Laguna del Sauce International AirportClose to Punta del Este, Maldonado.

As reported to EFE by the Ministry of TourismBetween December 2022 and this month, the number of weekly frequencies in Carrasco grew from 132 to 149. For its part, seven new frequencies were registered in Punta del Este, going from 23 to 30.

Part of the jump that occurred in Carrasco is explained by the fact that in October the connection with Miami (United States) through American Airlines. Likewise, through the Azul airline, the route to the Brazilian city of Curitiba.

For its part, the Panamanian Aviation Company (Copa Airlines) increased frequencies from Montevideo to Panama from 7pm to 9pm; Latam added another three towards Sao Paulo (Brazil); Chilean JetSmart added a route with four frequencies to Rio de Janeiro, also in Brazil; and the Spanish Iberia added two more towards Madridfrom the five it had in 2022.

New flights to Argentina from Punta del Este Airport

At the Laguna del Sauce International Airport, the frequencies with Buenos Airesfrom Aerolíneas Argentinas, went from about 14 to 23. The ministry also reported that as of January 2, 2024, flights will be added between Montevideo and the southern Argentine city of Barilocheand starting January 3, trips to the Argentine city of Mar del Plataon the Atlantic coast.

The Chilean low-cost airline SKY announced in September its return to Uruguay with about four international flights that will link Montevideo with Santiago de Chile and Lima Peru)as well as with Brazilian cities Salvador de Bahia and Florianopolis.
