The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States announced in the last few hours an investigation into violent threats against the judges of the Colorado Supreme Court who last week excluded former President Donald Trump from the presidential primaries due to his role in the assault on the Capitol.

“The FBI is aware of the situation and is working with local authorities. “We will vigorously continue to investigate any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions, regardless of their motivation,” said a statement from the agency cited by CNN.

Last week, the Colorado Supreme Court excluded Trump from the Republican Party elections in that state ahead of the November 2024 elections, arguing that he had been part of an insurrection, in reference to the assault on the Capitol on September 6. January 2021.

For that ruling, the court invoked Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which was enacted after the Civil War (1861-65), to prevent those who had participated in the war or an insurrection from accessing positions. governments, and prohibits those who “participate in an insurrection.”

The judges noted that the attack on the United States Congress was an insurrection, that Trump “engaged” in it and that the former president’s speech “inciting the crowd” that day “was not protected by the First Amendment.”

Trump’s campaign team anticipated that it will appeal the ruling to the country’s Supreme Court, made up of a conservative majority, hoping that it will “put an end to these anti-American lawsuits.”

For what happened on January 6 at the Capitol, Trump faces a trial for conspiracy, since the prosecutors who accuse him consider that he instigated his followers to storm the legislative building to prevent the certification of the president-elect, Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump, 77, will be tried in Washington in March accused of conspiring to overturn the results of the November 2020 elections, in a process that he repeatedly described as a “witch hunt.”
