The year ends with a bang in Aurolzmünster. For the 18th time, the starting signal for the “Münster New Year’s Eve Run” will be given on Sunday, December 31st and will once again offer numerous amateur athletes the opportunity to enjoy a sporting event at the end of the year. Last year more than 120 runners took part.
People are always asking about new records and goals, says organizer Sonja Hochhold. “They’re nice too and we’re happy about them. But the Münster New Year’s Eve Run should remain what it was from the beginning: an event where the focus should be on fun and not on the idea of performance,” says Hochhold.
There will be no elite races, but more or less serious competition between local amateur athletes in Aurolzmünster.
Donations instead of entry fees
The organizational team around Hochhold also demonstrates the fun of it all. For almost two decades, the event has been put on without a club in the background and on a voluntary basis.
Instead of a fixed entry fee, a voluntary donation is requested to cover the costs incurred. “And once a nice amount has been saved, we donate it regionally,” says Hochhold.
The Nordic walkers start on the seven-kilometer route at 1:30 p.m. The children’s and adult runs start at 2 p.m. Registrations are possible online using the form until Saturday, December 30th. For those who make a last-minute decision, late registrations are also possible on the day of the race up to half an hour before the start.
