The imperial city of Bad Ischl has ten fire departments and fire stations: all of them were very busy until Christmas Eve. A total of 122 missions had to be carried out from December 21st to the evening hours of December 23rd, with 400 firefighters giving their best. The orders ranged from fallen trees to torn down roof structures. A hotel in the city had to survive for a short time without a roof, and a villa in Rettenbach suffered the same fate.
Storm “Zoltan” seriously shook up the Christmas peace throughout the Salzkammergut. There was a lot of damage, but fortunately no injuries. In Ottnang am Hausruck, the fire department had to secure a photovoltaic system, some of which was already in front of the residential building.
Almost every one of the 15 fire departments in Mondseeland was alerted to different operations, including traffic accidents and fire alarms. However, some of the emergencies were not emergencies at all, according to the fire department: “Removing small branches or inspecting wooden huts that have been moved a few centimeters is no reason to alert the fire department.”
