The production of portland Ancap fell 28% year-on-year during the month of November, thus continuing with an accumulated decline in tonnage of cement compared to the previous year’s records.

The loss-making Portland business, which continues to be a headache for the autonomous entity’s board of directors, produced some 12,564 tons of cement with clinker – the main component – typical of Ancapcompared to the 18,979 tons it produced in the same month of 2022, that is, about 6,415 tons less.

However, 858 tons more were produced than during the month of October, when the figure had been 11,706 tons. For cement production that month, 76% of the company’s own clinker was used, and the remaining 24% purchased clinker, unlike in September, when 100% of the production was based on purchased clinker.

As for the extremes, the month with the highest production was April, where some 25,542 tons were totaled, even surpassing April 2022, a month that produced 25,050 tons. The least productive month was June, with 8,571 tons of portland cement.

Without knowing the data for December, the Portland business accumulates production during the first 11 months of the year of 161,921 tons, resulting in an annual average of about 14,720 tons. In December 2022, Portland production was 28,016 tons (the highest that year); while in 2021, it reached 21,746 tons.

“The Portland business is of no use to anyone”

In September of this year, the president of Ancap, Alejandro Stipanicicexplained to Ambit that the tender for the association of a private to Portland, which finally received no bidders, demonstrated that this business “is of no use to anyone” in the Uruguay.

“The natural conclusion of this whole process is to close the business. If this were a private company, it would not have survived 20 years with losses, but even so we reached this level where you go to a process and obviously no one buys the value.” assigned by third parties to your business is zero,” the manager stated on that occasion.
