After making an appointment, an energy consultant visits the apartment of the interested families, collects the data on the electrical devices and takes a look at the energy bills. If necessary, power guzzlers such as an old washing machine can be exchanged for a new one free of charge at Linz AG.

50 percent cost reduction

With savings measures, a household can reduce its energy costs by up to 50 percent, emphasizes Volkshilfe managing director Jasmin Chansri. It is clear that the consultation “penetrates deeply into the private sphere”. But the experiences so far have been “exclusively positive and characterized by mutual appreciation”. Ten families have already been advised, and another 30 households are the target. Volkshilfe wants to specifically target people who have already received assistance from Volkshilfe as clients. The campaign is “immediate aid and a contribution to climate protection,” according to Linz AG.
