New York announces mandatory vaccination for private sector

“We have Ómicron as a new factor, we have the colder weather, which will really create additional challenges with the Delta variant, we have vacation meetings,” De Blasio listed to MSNBC Monday morning.

“In New York City we have decided to use a preemptive strike to do something really bold to stop the growth of Covid-19 and the dangers it is causing.”, he assured, reported CNBC.

The city will also require proof of vaccination for children ages 5 to 11 for closed food, entertainment and gym establishments, the mayor said.

New York State has already detected eight cases of the Omicron variant, seven in the New York City area and one in Suffolk County on Long Island.

Covid-19 cases are increasing in New York City, averaging more than 1,500 new infections daily.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said last week that early data suggests that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is more contagious than previous variants, although more information is needed to determine whether it generates more aggressive conditions.
