Prices of domestic products fell by 2.25% in 2023

The prices of the products nationals fell 2.25% throughout 2023, according to the latest report from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), prepared with December data, leaving the General Index at 268.57, compared to 274.74 in the same month of 2022.

This is clear from the latest technical bulletin of the Producer Price Index of National Products (IPPN), which also reflected an increase of 0.76% in values ​​compared to last month, a situation that may or may not have its correlation in the next data from inflation, which will be known in the coming days.

When analyzing the variables of the increase, one of the factors that had the most impact was the section Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Forestry, which presented a monthly variation of 1.69%, with an incidence of 0.51% in the general index.

Something similar, although on a smaller scale, happened with the Manufacturing industry, which exhibited an increase of 0.39% in prices, with an incidence of 0.27%. On the other hand, the scenario was moderated by the decline of interbank dollar, which fell 0.65% between December 11 and November 10.

How did prices behave during the year?

Throughout 2023, prices for Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Forestry fell by 5.09%, driven by the animal husbandry (10.64%), since there were increases in crops in general (4.25%) and Forestry, wood extraction and related services (7.66%).

At the same time, in the Manufacturing Industry, product prices fell by 0.96%, – with the basic metal industries (16.69%) and the manufacture of derivatives Petroleum and coal (9.94%) as the largest falls.

Among the items with the lowest incidence, the exploitation of mines and quarries fell 0.37%, while the fishing grew by 1.12%.
