The January rally in Freistadt is not only a first-class international motorsport festival, but above all it is also a meeting place for local drivers. Of the 81 teams that have registered for the season opener of the Austrian National Rally Championship on Friday in Freistadt, 43 drivers with Upper Austrian origins are behind the wheel.

The countdown is on: In the Freistadt region everything is waiting for the starting signal for the 37th January Rally on Friday, January 5th. What people in the Mühlviertel are particularly proud of: Nowhere in Austria is the field of local heroes as large as at the traditional race at the start of the year. Of the 43 drivers from Upper Austria, 37 are in action in the race for the state championship or the Austrian Rally Cup. Six regional players are taking part in the Kristof Klausner Memorial, which is being run without timekeeping in honor of the Mühlviertel drift emperor who died in an accident in 2021. The best atmosphere in the fan zones is definitely guaranteed.
At the start of the Austrian National Rally Championship, fans in Freistadt can look forward to another motorsport fireworks display. According to the final status, 18 teams with Rally2 cars will compete for victory in the January rally in the highest horsepower category of the ORM. The focus is on the hunt for the reigning master Simon Wagner. The Upper Austrian won a highly dramatic championship in the very last race last season and thus successfully won the triple after his championships in 2021 and 2022.
