Crashes, farewells, moments of happiness – the third quarter brought a wealth of emotional moments.
Pressure to save: In the middle of the year, the precarious financial situation of the city of Steyr became public. Mayor Markus Vogl (SP) announced that Steyr residents would face fee increases in a wide variety of areas of life: from parking fees to dog taxes, from sewer fees to an increase in the price of lunch in kindergartens, after-school care centers and schools.
Bell ringer king: Anyone who holds this title is a sought-after man in the local cycling scene. Jonas Rapp from the Steyr Hrinkow Advarics Cycleang Team won this special victory on the queen stage of the 72nd Austrian cycling tour with a hussar ride up Austria’s highest mountain in front of Schwanenstadt’s Lukas Pöstlberger from the World Tour team Jayco. The next day, the fourth of five stages ended after a loop over the Porscheberg at the Steyr town square, where the professional cyclists were given a worthy welcome in Upper Austria’s cycling capital.

PParking space lock: Things were going well again in the Stodertal. After the parking spaces in the Polsterlucke were built by the municipality of Hinterstoder without appropriate dedication and approval, they were officially closed by the state of Upper Austria from July 20th following a complaint.

Sdebate: The Steyr SP was just missing this conflict. After Mayor Vogl and the city senate opened the pedestrian walkway to Münichholz in honor of the late Theater am Fluss founder “Herbert-Walzl-Steg” had renamed it, Münichholz comrades were horrified. They collected more than 1,000 signatures to keep the name “Sandmair footbridge”.

Ten meter tower: A lifeguard from Steyr achieved unwanted notoriety throughout Austria: he kicked a young bather from the ten-meter tower of the city pool into the depths. The video went viral, the lifeguard lost his job, and insults from the checkout staff were the less pleasant consequences.

Crashes: The mayors of Molln and Maria Neustift did not experience political crashes, but they did experience dramatic ones. Andreas Rußmann fell with his paraglider from a height of ten meters on Lake Achensee and broke his pelvis. During the renovation of the Maria Neustift elementary school, where he helped, Martin Haider lost his balance on the ladder and fell three and a half meters into the depths. He suffered an open fracture of his lower leg and a completely shattered heel bone. But both were optimistic about the future.

Gas: At the beginning of August, the mining authority gave the company ADX the green light for the planned test drilling “Which 1” on the edge of the national park. However, the ongoing conflict with environmentalists continued.
End of career: Vice world champion, two-time European champion, three-time Olympic participant – 42-year-old Clemens Doppler, one of Steyr’s best athletes, ended his career this year. Austria’s most successful beach volleyball player was considered a role model by many because he never lost courage despite numerous serious injuries.

Children’s University: The children’s university, which was held for the first time in Steyr twenty years ago, celebrated its anniversary with a big party at the FH campus in Wehrgraben. Rector Andreas Kupfer proudly pointed out that this idea is now at six locations in the state “on tour” is implemented.
Guardian Angel: 15-year-old Lisa probably had one of these when she wanted to go to the toilet after attending a festival in Leonstein and fell 30 meters down a steep slope to the Steyr. She survived, but suffered serious injuries.
Most beautiful spot: Steyr managed it “9 places – 9 treasures as Upper Austria winners through to the national final. However, the beautiful Steyr old town was denied a podium space there.
