According to the police, a 35-year-old driver from Germany drove back onto the motorway in the opposite direction after a break of about an hour at the Eben rest stop as a wrong-way driver. After about a kilometer, the man crashed head-on into the car of a 32-year-old from Pongau.
The German, his 20-year-old passenger and the Austrian were injured in the accident. The police carried out an alcohol test on both drivers. The test was negative for the German; for the 32-year-old, it showed a value of 0.3 per mille. The three injured people were taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving first aid.
A wrong-way driver accident with two injuries occurred on the Tauern motorway near Kuchl (Tennengau) on Wednesday morning. It has now emerged that an 81-year-old driver may have driven the wrong way onto the A10 near Golling. The woman was traveling around nine kilometers in the opposite direction of travel in the fast lane until she collided with the SUV of a 19-year-old Hungarian. The accident caused extensive traffic jams in early morning traffic and in traffic arriving to the ski areas.
