Indian Foreign Minister spoke about deepening ties with the Russian Far East

India continues to work with Russia to deepen bilateral ties with the Far East. Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar stated this in an interview with Izvestia.

“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we are actively working. Following the visit of the Prime Minister to Vladivostok in 2019 (it became the starting point for the formation of a new Indian policy “Act in the Far East”), a number of high-level visits took place, including visits by two ministers of oil and natural gas to Vladivostok, the last of which took place in within the Eastern Economic Forum in September 2021. And this year, of all countries, India had the largest delegation at the Forum, ”the minister said.

In addition, Subramanyam Jaishankar said that in order to analyze the expansion of bilateral trade along the sea route, India ordered a feasibility study of the Eastern Sea Corridor, which will connect the Indian city of Chennai with the Russian port of Vladivostok, and it is already nearing completion.

“We continue to maintain close contacts with the regions of the Far East through a series of virtual meetings. Recently, the Gujarat government also sent invitations to the governors of the Russian Far East to take part in the Vibrant Gujarat summit next year (an investor summit held every two years by the state government – Ed.), ”The source said.

All this serves, in the minister’s opinion, a clear signal of India’s continued interest in cooperation with the Far East.
