A new social center for Freistadt’s young people was created shortly before the turn of the year with the opening of the new ÖGJ youth center at Zemannstrasse 14 in Freistadt. The interest shown by young people in the days following the opening was very encouraging. To ensure that it stays that way, youth center director Iris Poxleiter wants to develop monthly programs that offer both entertainment and space for low-threshold educational opportunities. The aim is not only to create a leisure activity for people aged 13 to 20, but above all to promote their talents, emphasized Kurt Winter (JCUV managing director) and Stefan Reichl (JCUV club manager) at the opening: “Our work is an investment into the future: into young people whose ideas and energy will one day enrich our society.”
This intention was the basis for the broad support of the project by the municipality, said Mayor Christian Gratzl (SP): “The youth center fulfills a unanimously agreed dream. We have created a new meeting place for our young people – a place where their needs are the focus.” This was also underlined by Clemens Poissl (VP), City Councilor for Youth, Family and Sport, adding: “We look forward to moving into a promising future together and achieving a lot for Freistadt’s youth.” ÖGB state chairman and AK president Andreas Stangl also took the same line: “It is important that young people are encouraged and supported.” Especially the non-partisan nature of Upper Austria. Youth center support association JCUV is a guarantee that the young people are cared for in a respectful manner.
For the ceremonial opening, city councilor Poissl, a pastry chef by profession, brought a magnificent cake with logos of the Freistadt municipality and the youth center. Together, AK President Andreas Stangl, Mayor Christian Gratzl, City Councilor Poissl, JCUV managing director Kurt Winter, JCUV club leader Stefan Reichl and JUZ leader Iris Poxleiter cut this cake and distributed the pieces among the guests at the opening.
The ÖGJ youth center is open from Tuesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. All information about events and opening times can be found on Facebook or Instagram as well as on the homepage www.jcuv.at/freistadt.
