One can probably say it’s lucky that nothing more happened in this accident: a man from Innviertel lost control of his car in the center of St. Roman (Schärding district) late on Friday afternoon and drove almost without braking into the entrance area of the local inn. The car rammed a support of the canopy and caused a boundary wall to collapse. The glazing of the entrance door also broke due to the force of the impact.

“Fortunately there were no people there at the time,” said the St. Roman fire department, which was called to the clean-up work, with relief in a Facebook post. The driver of the accident, a 64-year-old local, was also apparently able to get out of his VW uninjured. However, because he could not remember the exact circumstances of the accident, he was taken to hospital for evaluation.

The police are still investigating the cause of the accident and health problems are suspected. An alcohol test was negative. The fire department closed the scene of the accident, secured the canopy and took care of further clean-up work. According to the emergency services, the damage is considerable.
