Venice bans tourist groups of more than 25 people

This was decided by the city council at its most recent meeting. This measure affects the city center and the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. Loudspeakers will be banned on city tours in the future.

The community’s decisions were announced on Saturday. The measure will come into force on June 1, 2024. This is intended to promote sustainable tourism and ensure the protection and security of the city, commented Security Councilor Elisabetta Pesce. In addition, “a signal is being sent against unauthorized tour guides,” added Sebastiano Costalonga, the city councilor responsible for trade.

Drinks prohibited on streets

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has signed a decree to protect public safety on New Year’s Eve. From December 31st to January 1st, 2024, 6:00 a.m., shops, bars and outdoor stands are not allowed to sell or serve drinks in glass bottles, sealed cans and plastic bottles. It is also forbidden to consume any kind of drinks on the street.

The use and possession of pepper spray is also prohibited. Failure to comply with this regulation will be punished with a fine of between 25 euros and 500 euros, the municipality said.
