According to the latest report on the labor market by geographic area of ​​residence prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE)corresponding to the moving quarter September-November 2023, Black river continues to present the worst records of unemployment at the national level.

In Río Negro, the rate of unemployment reaches 13.5% of the active population, while in Paysandu and Leapthe other departments that share a border with Argentina, is 10.3% and 10.6%, respectively.

The department with the highest rate of activity is Maldonado, with 68.4%; closely followed by Río Negro and Soriano, both with 67%. At the other extreme, the department with the least activity is Rochawith 56.2%, waiting for a reactivation of the seasonal employment during the 2023-2024 summer season.

Likewise, the rate of employment in Maldonado it is the highest in the country, with 63.4%, only comparable to those in Soriano, 61.7%; and that of Florida, with 61.3%. At the other end of the Fernandino department is Rocha, its competitor in tourism, with a meager 49.8%.

On the other hand, Montevideo It continues to be the department with the highest formality in the country, since it has the lowest percentage of employees not registered with social security, with 14.4%. The department with the worst record is Artigas, with 46.8%.
