The Astra shows its strengths in extra time

Only half a year after the Astra basic version was launched, Opel released the estate version, the Sports Tourer. The Rüsselsheimer ignite a firework of numbers in their announcement. Because the sober comparison makes not only the Opel people safe: With the new Astra Sport Tourer, the circled lightning bolt has achieved something very practical, something special.

Shorter than its predecessor

Although six centimeters shorter than its predecessor, the wheelbase is almost six centimeters longer (2.73 meters): Opel created a good basis for a spacious station wagon (L / W / H 4.64 / 1.86 / 1.48 meters) ). Expressed in loading liters: between 608 and 1634 liters can be stacked in the rear. In the plug-in hybrid version, it’s still 548 to 1574 liters. There, the lithium-ion battery nibbled away a few liters of volume under the trunk. The comparison makes the difference clear: There was space for 540 to 1630 liters in the predecessor – in some cases significantly less than in the new combustion variants.

Flat loading area

If the 40:20:40 split rear seat backrests are folded down, the result is a flat loading area. The loading sill is 60 centimeters above the floor. The double trunk floor can be locked at two heights and at a 45-degree angle. The trunk cover, in turn, can be stowed in the floor. Exception: The PHEV version does not have this space due to the battery.

The interior design such as the curved widescreen is identical to the 27 centimeter shorter Astra five-door, as are the LED lights (daytime running lights, adaptive high beam, etc.). And the futuristic Vizor design, the new Opel brand face, is also adopted one-to-one. And the front camera supplies data for semi-autonomous driving (Intelli-Drive 2.0).

The new Sports Tourer is coming to Austria in the first half of 2022, then there will be prizes too.

Opel Astra Sports Tourer: the drives

In terms of space, the Astra Sport Tourer has turned into the fast lane. And the Rüsselsheim-based company has also taken a big step into the future when it comes to drives. In addition to petrol and diesel variants (from 110 to 130 hp), Opel is also launching two plug-in hybrid models. A 180 hp part-time electric vehicle was introduced right away, followed by the 225 hp variant.
