After stagnation in the two Corona years, the population of the city of Linz is growing again. Linz recorded the highest growth, particularly in the second half of the year, with September being the highest with an increase of 660 people. There was still a decline in the first quarter. As of January 1, 2024, the local population register recorded exactly 212,578 main and 19,300 secondary residences.
Economic situation and Ukraine refugees
Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) cites the “good economic situation in Linz” and refugees from Ukraine as the reasons for this. The fact is that Linz is only growing due to influx, because last year 1994 babies were born, while 2043 people from Linz died. The migration balance, however, is positive. This means that just over 16,000 people are moving away, while around 17,500 are moving in.
