The 53-year-old set off alone on the tour in the Dead Mountains at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, but did not return as agreed. His son alerted the emergency services around 6:30 p.m. They found the man’s body in the early hours of the morning. According to the police, he probably slipped across a snow field.

After the son made the emergency call, 35 men and women from the avalanche and search dog squadron, a crew from the Christophorus 14 emergency medical helicopter, one from the Libelle FLIR Salzburg police helicopter, one from the Libelle Steiermark police helicopter and two alpine police officers from the Liezen Alpine Task Force set out to search the Grazer. The areas of the Großer Tragel, Rosskogel and Almkogel were searched.

When they found the missing winter sports enthusiast, there was no way to save him. How exactly he died remains to be determined. He may have suffered his fatal injuries while slipping across a snowfield. The police helicopter team recovered the 53-year-old’s body. His relatives are being cared for by the crisis intervention team.
