A 39-year-old Romanian is said to have hit two teenagers with an iron rod on the evening of New Year’s Day: The man got into an argument with the teenagers on the station forecourt around 8:50 p.m. According to witness statements, he suddenly pulled an iron bar out of his waistband and used it to chase a 15-year-old Syrian and a 17-year-old from Linz. In a wild scuffle involving a 28-year-old Hungarian and a young Portuguese, the man is said to have tried to hit the boys. They sustained minor injuries.
As it turned out, the perpetrator and the 28-year-old had been involved in further fights just an hour before and on New Year’s Eve. The 39-year-old is also said to have tried to injure an opponent with a crutch on December 10th. When questioned, the 28-year-old said he couldn’t remember because he was drunk. The 39-year-old stated that he only used the iron bar for his defense and only partially confessed. He was transferred to the prison by order of the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the police said on Wednesday.
