Hike as an alternative to the rally

The final stage of this year’s January rally will take place in Windhaag on Sunday afternoon. The motorsport event will attract thousands of visitors, but not only finds supporters in the community itself.

It is no coincidence that Alfred Klepatsch is organizing a sculpture hike through the municipality from 1 p.m., immediately before the start of the special rally stage. The meeting point is at the Windhague market square. The main goals are the sculptures created by Gerhard Eilmsteiner in public spaces. Klepatsch will introduce the participants in the hike to the history of their creation as well as interpretations of the content of the sculptures and also invites them to discuss them. “Through many conversations and discussions about art, his objects as well as society and politics, Gerhard Eilmsteiner has had a strong influence on my thoughts and actions and broadened my horizons,” says Klepatsch about sculptures such as the day after tomorrow stone, the monument to forest dwellers and the minute-accurate sundial.

This hike sees itself as an alternative offer to all those who are critical of events like the January Rally because they see it as a contradiction to constantly formulated goals and keywords such as climate protection, energy independence, responsibility for creation and suitability for grandchildren, says Klepatsch. “We will not solve our major problems such as global warming or energy dependence if we look at and examine the many subject areas in isolation. Today rally and full throttle, tomorrow climate protection.”

After the hike ends at around 3 p.m. there is an opportunity to stop at the Rudelstorfer inn.
