PERG / NAARN. The Strasser markets in Naarn and Perg were closed for two days this week. The reason: The grocery stores, which have strong roots in the region, have been operating under the Spar umbrella brand since the beginning of the year, which is why the furnishings in the sales rooms had to be slightly adapted. Since today, Thursday, Johann Strasser and his employees have been welcoming customers to the new stores.
By switching to Spar, the aim is to secure the two locations in the long term, according to the family business regarding the realignment as independent Spar stores. In terms of sales and market share, Spar is by far the market leader in the self-employed business sector and is therefore an attractive partner for start-ups and new entrants.
“It was clear to us that we needed a strong partner for the next step. SPAR is known as a stable system wholesaler and a reliable service center for independent retailers. Our decision was a decision for local local supply in our region,” says Johann Strasser .
With the switch to Spar, the delicatessen departments in particular were adapted to Spar’s proven “2.0 concept”. The biggest changes, however, concern the range. Regular customers can now expect a varied product range of regional and international specialties and a wide selection of fresh products in SPAR quality on around 1000 square meters of sales space in Perg and around 450 square meters of sales space in Naarn.
The textile, technology, toys and household goods department on the first floor at the Perger location, which is run by Herbert Strasser, Johann Strasser’s brother, will remain unchanged even after the brand change.
Almost 100 years of tradition
The roots of the Strasser market go back to 1927 when the grandmother of Johann and Herbert Strasser opened a general store in Naarn. In 1952, Franz Strasser took over the local supplier, expanded it and opened the location in Perg. Johann Strasser took over the management of the two grocery stores in the Perg district in 2007 and is now running them to Spar with the support of his son Jakob.
