From four to around 700,000 Instagram followers within three weeks: shooting star Luke Littler quickly became the biggest influencer in the darts scene. The 16-year-old, who looks significantly older but is actually that young according to the birth certificate published on “X”, took hearts by storm, even though the coronation didn’t happen.

Littler’s English compatriot Luke Humphries (28), the new world number one, came back from 2-4 behind in the final in front of 3,000 enthusiastic fans at Alexandra Palace in London and secured his first world title with a 7-4 win and prize money of 500,000 pounds (equivalent to 575,000 euros). His opponent can console himself with 200,000 pounds (230,000 euros) and a rise in the ranking from position 164 to 31.

But even the current dominator of the scene, Humphries, who has previously won the World Grand Prix, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals, knows that Littler – he even received mail from David Beckham – is unstoppable: “I had to “Do it now, because this young man will dominate the scene in the coming years,” said “Cool Hand Luke” appreciatively.

The two protagonists duel once four years ago in “Nirvana,” in a pub match for a relatively paltry 250 pounds. Littler, whom they call “The Nuke,” was twelve, Humphries was overweight and tormented by panic attacks. He should then radically change his diet and lose a lot of weight. “That helped me,” said the champion.

Not only did he enjoy the spotlight at the showdown, but also cult referee Russ Bray (66), who said goodbye.
