Sources of Ministry of the Interior of Uruguay clarified the episode in which the Argentine consul in Cologne, Mariana Bramanoentered the Libertad prison with money, located in the city of the same name in the department of Saint Joseph.

As explained to AmbitBramano had some cash in his possession at the time of entering the prison, estimated at around a thousand Uruguayan pesos, which were detected in the routine controls carried out by the Republican Guard in any penitentiary center.

The officers informed the Argentine consul that entering detention centers with money is prohibited, however it does not constitute a crime. In a second search of his personal bag, they found among his belongings some US currency bills that did not exceed 25 dollars.

Initial press reports reported a larger sum of money supposedly placed in a bag. The events occurred on November 16.

From the Ministry of the Interior they explained that there is an internal investigation underway, a usual procedure that begins when the Republican Guard draws up reports on admissions not admitted to any penitentiary center in the country.

Part of that same investigation is also the complaint by a guard about an alleged attempt to enter the Libertad prison by its director, Hugo Blanco, with a cell phone, something that is also prohibited.
