The unusual attack occurred on Wednesday (local time) in the middle of a hearing in a court in Las Vegas – on Thursday, videos from cameras from the courtroom spread rapidly online. It shows how the defendant initially asked for leniency at the meeting despite a long list of past offenses and asserted that he had improved and did not deserve to be imprisoned again. When the judge dismissed this and explained that, given his history of criminal convictions, it was time “for something else,” the defendant freaked out.
Judge slightly injured
The man shouted insults and stormed toward the judge’s bench, making an unusually large leap directly over the table and knocking the judge to the ground. Justice staff immediately came to help and fought a violent scuffle with the attacker until he was under control. The ABC television station reported, citing court staff, that the judge was slightly injured in the attack but did not need to be treated in hospital. The man now faces further penalties.
